Accessibility statement
The standard this site is built to, what is not there yet, and how to tell us about a barrier.
The standard we build to
This site targets WCAG 2.1 level AA across the public pages and the applicant portal. The staff administration area targets the same standard and is tested less exhaustively, because its users are known and few.
That target is not aspirational. The automated accessibility check runs in the build pipeline and a failure stops the build, so a violation cannot reach the site by being overlooked in review.
What that means in practice
Specific commitments, each of which is tested rather than assumed:
- Every page works from the keyboard alone, with a visible focus indicator and no keyboard traps
- Text contrast is measured, not estimated. Three colours inherited from the original design were corrected because they failed
- Body text is never smaller than sixteen pixels, anywhere — including table cells and captions
- Anything tappable is at least forty-four pixels square
- The site is usable at 200 per cent zoom with no horizontal scrolling
- No state is signalled by colour alone; every status carries a word as well
- Filtering, searching and paging work with JavaScript unavailable
- Every image carries alternative text — an image without it cannot be published
Known limitations
Stated plainly, because an accessibility statement that lists no limitations is not describing a real site.
- Photographs and documents supplied by the Trust are checked for alternative text but not for colour contrast within the image itself
- PDF reports are published as supplied and are not remediated for screen reader use. If you need the content of a report in another format, ask and it will be provided
- Gallery videos are hosted externally, so their player and captions are outside our control
- The manual screen reader pass covers the ten most important screens before each release, not every screen
Telling us about a barrier
If something on this site stops you doing what you came to do, tell us and we will fix it. Contact the Trust by email or telephone — both are on the contact page — and say which page you were on and what happened.
If a barrier stops you completing an application, say so, and the Trust will take your application by another means rather than leaving you to wait for a fix. A deadline will not be held against you because of a fault on our side.
