Chidinma finished secondary school as the best-performing student in her local government area, and still could not raise a fraction of the university fees. She had begun to accept that her results might lead nowhere.
A teacher encouraged her to apply. After a household assessment and an interview, she was awarded a full scholarship covering tuition and materials, and was matched with a mentor who is herself a doctor.
Two years on she is thriving, and now mentors three younger scholars through the same doubts she once had.
